Scope and Content

Correspondence with Patrick Dermott Kenny (1862-1944), journalist, writer and literary critic, relating to the potential loss of Kenny's farm in Ireland, and his view that he is being victimised by the civic guards and his neighbours for publishing criticism of the economic influence of the Catholic Church in Ireland in the British press, with a request for assistance from the Manchester Guardian in publicising his case.

Also included is correspondence with [John Tudor] Gwynn, civil servant in India, relating to discussion of Kenny's case, his writing on agricultural and anticlerical subjects in the press, and of information gleaned from a meeting between Gwynn and Kenny, with the conclusion that there does not seem to be any way to help with the situation.
