Correspondence with Sir Julian Sorell Huxley (1887-1975), zoologist and philosopher, relating to a request by Scott for articles by Huxley on the theory of evolution, in light of the interest generated by [the Scopes Trial], which is accepted, with discussion of form and payment. Also included is discussion of a report of an [unknown] conference written by Huxley for the Manchester Guardian, but which is not published owing to its being provided a few days late, with apologies from Scott for any misunderstanding as to time requirements.
There is a request by Scott that Huxley write an article for the Manchester Guardian on the presidential address of [Jan Christian] Smuts, prime minister of South Africa and army officer, to the South African Association for the Advancement of Science, which is accepted. There is a request by Huxley for the publication of a letter of response to criticisms made of Huxley for discussing birth control on the radio, with reference to the position of the BBC and to censorship, which is granted. Also included is discussion of Huxley's resignation of his chair at King's College, and the suggestion by Scott that he might write articles for the Manchester Guardian as part of his stated intention of communicating scientific research to the public, which is declined, owing to Huxley's commitment to writing [The Science of Life].
There is also discussion of the degree and employment of F.A. Montague, grandson of C.P. Scott, whom was known to Huxley when at university at Oxford.
GDN/A/H109/11 is an article on Huxley's resignation of his chair at King's College, London in the Manchester Guardian, [1927].
