Correspondence with Henry Charles Woods, army officer and writer, relating to discussion of Woods' desire for employment as a war or foreign correspondent for a newspaper, with an offer of articles for the Manchester Guardian from a trip to the Balkans, of which articles from Turkey are declined, but photographs and articles from Persia are accepted. Also included are discussion of a meeting between Woods and Scott, and an outline of a further proposed visit to Turkey by Woods, with an offer of articles for the paper, and the acceptance of photographs accompanied by short descriptive articles. There is correspondence relating to an offer of photographs, and a discussion of copyright for photographs which are published in the paper. There is also discussion of the political situation in Turkey, and a potential visit to Montenegro and Albania.
There is discussion of Scott's hope that Woods may be reinstated in the army, and of his appointment as vice-consul in Adana, which is viewed as an attempt by the government to make amends to Woods for his dismissal. There is an offer by Woods of an article entitled 'Literary Awakening in Albania', and an offer to act as a correspondent for the paper in Tripoli, which is declined. Also included are other offers of articles by Woods from trips and visits to Europe, the Near East, and India, which are declined, and arrangements for a further meeting between Woods and Scott.
