Allison received his medical education in Manchester. He then held house appointments at MRI and Manchester Children's Hospital and Baguley Sanatorium. Allison moved away from Manchester to appointments at Harefield Sanatorium and Milford where he became Medical Superintendent. He was a founder member of the British Tuberculosis Association.
