Auckland was born in Bolton on 26 August 1918. He trained at Manchester and London. He was AMO at Manchester and Salford Skin Hospital and at Winwick Mental Hospital. He was later appointed Consultant Dermatologist at MRI, Manchester and Salford Skin Hospital, and Bolton and Bury and Rossendale Hospital Groups. He was also Lecturer in Dermatology at University of Manchester. He was a life fellow of Manchester Medical Society and a member of the North England Dermatological Society (being president in 1956-1957) and British Associtation of Dermatologists.
Auckland married Florence Hollas Auckland in 1943. He retired in 1983 and died on 21 March 1992.
