Corfield studied at Manchester, Brussels and Liverpool. He held positions in gynaecology and anaesthetics at the Manchester Northern Hospital, Ancoats Hospital, MRI and St Mary's Hospital Manchester before being appointed gynaecologist at Swinton and Pendleton Ante-natal Clinic and Stalybridge Maternity Welfare Centre. Corfield later moved to Sunderland.
