Ewart trained at Guy's Hospital and was resident obstetrician there before moving to Manchester. Ewart was honorary surgeon at St Mary's Hospital Manchester from 1874 until 1883. He was later surgeon at Eastbourne Convalescent Hospital. Ewart was a fellow of the Obstetrical Society.
