Carson was born on 13 May 1907 and was educated at Queen's University Belfast. Carson was deputy medical superintendent at Booth Hall Hospital Manchester, from 1937 to 1941 and at Withington Hospital Manchester, from 1941 until 1950. He was then appointed consultant physician for South Cheshire, a position he held until his retirement in 1972. Carson was chairman of the Crewe Division of the British Medical Association and was a member of Manchester Medical Society .
