Gregson was born in Blackburn on 17 April 1880. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School and Owens College Manchester. Gregson was medical officer in charge of electrical treatment at Queen Mary's Military Hospital, Whalley. He later returned to Blackburn where he settled in general practice. Gregson invented sterilizer for shaving brushes to prevent the spread of anthrax.
