Gordon attended Manchester Grammar School and later worked as a surgeon in Manchester. Gordon was honorary secretary of Royal Manchester School of Medicine. One source says he fell into poverty and died miserably circa 1850, but as he appears in the 1860 Medical Directory is uncertain.
