Griffiths was leprologist to the Republic of Zambia. He had been educated at the University of Manchester, graduating BSc in 1938 and MB in 1941. After serving in the RAMC during the war, Griffiths served in the Colonial Medical Service in Fiji, where he became interested in tuberculosis and leprosy. Griffiths was consultant chest physician in Malay, Brunei and Zambia.
