Foulds was born in Nelson, Lancashire, on 14 January 1932. He was educated at William Hulme's Grammar School, Manchester, and the University of Manchester. After qualifying, Foulds held junior positions at Withington Hospital Manchester and MRI. He was later appointed consultant anaesthetist for Salford AHA. Foulds was a member of Manchester Medical Society and was secretary and president of the Anaesthetics Section. Stanley was known primarily for his administrative work and was chairman of the North Western Regional Medical Committee. Foulds died on 29 November 1988.
