Benton studied at Manchester before becoming house surgeon at MRI. In 1913 he was appointed visiting anaesthetist at MRI, and was also anaesthetist to Manchester Ear Hospital and Grangethorpe Pensions Hospital. He was a member of Manchester Medical Society and the Pathological Society of Manchester. Benton died in April 1943.
