Addis spent most of his career in the Manchester area. He was a chief assistant at Salford Royal Hospital, a clinical assistant at the rheumatological research department at the University of Manchester, and Tuberculosis Physician for the Salford and West Manchester Hospital Management Committee. He later became consultant in geriatrics at the Wigan and Leigh Hospital. Addis was a member of Manchester Medical Society .
