Frank Diggle was born at Heywood, and was educated at the University of Manchester, graduating in 1909. He held resident posts at MRI, and undertook postgraduate study at St Bartholomew's and Edinburgh. A specialist in ENT (oto-laryngology), he was appointed as oto-larynologist at Ancoats Hospital Manchester in 1920, and was honorary surgeon at Manchester Ear Hospital and the Duchess of York Babies Hospital. He was a lecturer in applied physiology at the University of Manchester and published widely in his area of specialism.
