Administrative / Biographical History

Griffiths was professor of dermatology at the University of Manchester, honorary consultant dermatologist to Salford Royal Hospital, and clinical director of dermatology to Salford Regional Hospitals Trust. He studied anatomy at the University of London and qualified in medicine in 1979, gaining his MD in 1991. He was research fellow and senior registrar in dermatology at St Mary's Hospital London and was assistant professor to the Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor before coming to Manchester. Griffiths was a pioneer in the treatment of skin disorders, conducting early trials of the transplant drug Cyclosporin while at St Mary's and developing the use of topical retinoic acid.
