Green studied medicine at Owens College Manchester and was house surgeon at MRI. Green later became clinical assistant at Barnes Convalescent Hospital before being appointed senior resident medical officer at Chorlton Union Infirmary Manchester (later Withington Hospital). Green later moved to Portsmouth where he was assistant surgeon to the ear department of Portsmouth and Southern Counties Eye and Ear Hospital.
