Chadwick, the son of a doctor, was born in Manchester on 30 March 1924 and was educated at Manchester Grammar School and the University of Manchester. Chadwick did postgraduate training in otolaryngology at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, and at MRI. He was also a research fellow of the Lempert Institute of Otology, New York, where he learnt to perform modern temporal bone surgery. Chadwick was also very interested in the hazards of noise. Chadwick represented the British Association of Otolaryngology and the British Society of Audiology as a member of the occupational deafness subcommittee of the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council. Chadwick was also on the council of the Royal Society of Medicine, the British Society of Audiology and the North of England Otolaryngological Society. Chadwick died on 3 January 1976.
