Freckleton had been senior physician to Liverpool General Dispensary before becoming a well recognised doctor in Manchester. He was medical officer at St Mary's Hospital Manchester in the 1830s, and gave the first lectures in medicine and materia medica at the Mount Street Medical School in 1826.
