Bishop studied at the Manchester Royal School of Medicine in Manchester before working in general practice in Ardwick, Manchester. He was elected honorary surgeon at Ancoats Hospital and gradually gave up his general practice. He specialised increasingly in abdominal and gynaecological surgery and wrote many papers on the subject. Bishop was also surgeon for diseases of women at the Jewish Memorial Hospital Manchester. He was a member of the council of the Royal Society of Medicine, president of the Manchester Clinical Society and vice-president of Manchester Medical Society . Bishop died on 25 July 1912.
