Fiddian was born in India and was educated in England. He trained at Cambridge and St Bartholomew's Hospital. He was in the RAMC from 1914 until 1919 and held junior positions at St Bartholomew's Hospital and Stamford and Rutland General Infirmary. Fiddian was later appointed honorary surgeon at Ashton-under-Lyne District Infirmary and worked in general practice in Ashton-under-Lyne. His daughter, Barbara Fiddian (later Bryson), joined his practice in Ashton. Fiddian died in Lancaster on 16 February 1965, at the age of 77.
