After qualifying, Berry held house positions at Salford Royal Hospital before working as assistant MOH for Derbyshire and AMO for Lancashire county Council. He was later MOH for the City and Port of Gloucester, school medical officer and medical superintendent of Infectious Diseases Hospitals in Gloucester. Berry was a member of the Society of Medical Officers of Health.
