Edward was the second son of John Bennet of Chapel-en-le-Frith. He studied at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals in London and in Paris. He was honorary physician at Macclesfield Public Dispensary before being appointed physician to the Sea-side Institution for Convalescent Women in New Brighton, Cheshire.
