Preceded by an earlier batsubun, dated Genki 2 元亀二年 (1571), containing a note on this work and its compiler, Gyōnen. Description: 2 kan, formerly in 1 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (上) ff. 24; (下) ff. 31. 25.9 x 18 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 21.2 x 15.2 cm. Double-line borders, with 'flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed okurigana (katakana) and kaeriten. 10 lines to page, 20 characters to line. Original yellow covers with printed title slip. Gedai: 八宗綱要. Naidai: Hasshū kōyō shō 八宗綱要抄. Hashiragaki: Kōyō jō (ge) 綱要 上 (下) + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: The earliest printed edition. Followed by revised editions in Bunsei 10 and 11, 1827-28. Contents: A brief summary of the transmission of Buddhism from India to China and Japan, and of the history and doctrines of the eight sects (hasshū) of Japanese Buddhism. Written by Gyōnen in or about Bun'ei 文永五年, 1268.
