      1 volume Condition: Generally good, apart from minor worm damage (unrepaired) in upper and lower margins, and soiled first folio. Most folios are split at fold along fore-edge, but only fol. 1 has been re-backed. Impression: Sharp and clear, showing little sign of type wear. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal, 相州大住郡栗原保國寺, on first page of mokuroku 目録. Oblong red seal, Shisendō 詩仙堂 (seal of Ishikawa Jōzan 石川丈山) on first page of maki 2, 3, 4 and 5 (very faintly impressed). Also three unidentified red seals on first page of maki 1 (序). Manuscript notes: Some shubiki and kutōten, and a few interlinear textual notes, in red. These are referred to in a shikigo written in red ink, dated Genroku 8 元禄八年, on the last page of maki 5. This shikigo reads: 元禄八乙亥初冬書林某以新刋餘話七冊呈送予依以愚本校合異同點句讀 / 于時倍風邪痔疾懶殘疎慵塗沫無常後日俟重校矣.

Text revised by Liu Jing (明) 劉敬 and collated for publication by Zhang Guangqi (明) 張光啓. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [Genna / early-Kan'ei period, c. 1615-30] . No colophon. Description: 5 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (1) ff. 6 (序, 目録), 27 (maki 1 本文); (2) ff. 30; (3) ff. 21; (4) ff. 31; (5) ff. 30. 27.2 x 19.6 cm. Fukurotoji. Movable type (wood). Printing frame 23 x 17.4 cm. (average). Double-line borders all round. No vertical rules. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text, without printed kunten or reading marks. 13 lines to page, 20 characters to line. Original vermilion (tan) front cover only, embossed with a geometric design. Title slip added at a later date, with manuscript gedai in a late-Edo hand: 新編剪燈餘話. Title at head of preface and mokuroku: 新編剪燈餘話. Title at head of each maki (本文) : Sentō yowa 剪燈餘話. Hashiragaki: Yowa 餘話 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only movable type edition of this work. Contents: A collection of 22 stories, chiefly dealing with the supernatural.
