[Nara, Kōfukuji 興福寺, Kenryaku 3 建暦三年 (1213), from external and internal evidence] . See under Edition below. Description: 1 kan (maki 77), 1 roll (kansubon) in a wooden box. Roll is made up of 22 consecutive sheets, each 47 cm. long. Height: 25.7 cm. Blockprint. Printing frame (height) 21 cm. No borders. No rules between lines of text. Kanbun text with copious manuscript shōten (tone marks) in red and a few kunten in red and black, written in 1271 and 1287 (see manuscript notes below). 23 lines to each sheet, 17 characters to line. Protective cover of brown paper at beginning of roll, not original but renewed with old paper. Black lacquered wooden roller. No title slip. Title from naidai. Text-paper white, of mixed ganpi and kōzo. Edition: Kasuga-ban, printed at the Kōfukuji, Nara. One roll (maki 77) of the first printed edition of this work, complete in 100 kan. Although undated, this volume in its hanshiki so closely resembles that of the copies illustrated in Nara kangyōshi 寧楽刊経史, pl. 14 and 15, that it clearly belongs to the edition published by the monk Kōei 弘睿 at the Kōfukuji in Kenryaku 3, 1213. Contents: Chinese translation of the Yogācāra-bhūmi-śāstra, a major work of Mahāyāna Buddhism in 100 fascicles. One of the principal scriptures of the Yogācāra school, it became in Japan a leading scripture of the Hossō sect.

- Physical Description1 scroll Condition: Mostly good. Roll not rebacked, but some worm holes neatly repaired. Impression: An early impression (shozuri) from unworn blocks. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript notes: Four manuscript notes (shikigo 識語), all signed by the monk Chōshin 澄心, follow consecutively after the printed text at end of roll, the first in red ink and the rest in black. Latter half of second note, and third and fourth notes, are continued on reverse of roll. First note, dated Bun'ei 8 (1271), refers to Chōshin's transcription of reading marks into this copy: 文永八年十月十二日於興福寺四恩院沙門澄心寓巻移点了. Second note, dated Kōan 10 弘安十年 (1287), refers to further collation of text with other copies, also by Chōshin. Third and fourth notes, dated Kengen 2 乾元二年 (1303) and Shōwa 1 正和元年 (1312) respectively, record further study of the text (披読 and 奉読).
