Additionally, a short Japanese kanki relating to this edition is printed at the end of maki 10, 24 and 27. (Note, however, that the kanki printed in maki 24 and 27 of this copy differ from those quoted by Kawase in GK, p. 105, in that each ends: ・・・ 法眼宗應刊行. See Kawase's remarks on Shūō 宗應 in GK, pp. 105-6.) In maki 2 and 3 of this edition, abbreviated names of original block-cutters of the Yuan edition are retained. According to the kango quoted above, the cost of printing this edition was borne by the monk Gyokuhō 玉峯 (also known as Chitaku 智琢 and Shōrin 正琳) of the Kenninji, Tenjun'an, formerly a bushi of the Wakae 若江 family. Contents: A biographical work compiled by Daoyuan in 1004, tracing the lineage of Zen Buddhism to the seven Buddhas of the past and giving short biographies, or quoting the names, of 1,701 Chinese and Indian Zen masters. An important source for the history of Chan Buddhism in China.
