Author/compiler: Unknown. Imprint: [Kyōto] , Hayashi Izuminojō, n.d. [c. Kanbun period, 1661-73 ?] . Publisher's name printed on back endpaper reads: 林和泉掾板行. Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, in a chitsu case. ff. 18. 23.7 x 15.9 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 16.8 (average) x 12.1 cm. Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text with printed furigana. 6-7 lines to page, variable no. of characters to line. Original embossed vermilion covers, with title slip on left bearing printed gedai: 新謌仙. No naidai. Title from gedai. Hashiragaki: Shin kasen 新歌仙 + folio no. Printed on good quality tōshi 唐紙 paper. Edition: Not identified. An edition was published in Kanbun 1 (1661) and a 7-satsu set entitled Kasen 歌仙, comprising Ko kasen 古歌仙, Chūko kasen 中古歌仙, Shin kasen 新歌仙, etc., was also published in Kanbun 1 (1661). The present copy may belong to one of these editions. Contents: A new version of the Thirty-six Poets (Sanjurokkasen 三十六歌仙) comprising emperors, court nobles and other poets, beginning with Emperor Go-Toba and ending with Saigyō Hōshi 西行法師. One poem and a portrait of the poet on each page.
