      1 volume Condition: Good. Impression: Atozuri, from worn blocks. Illustrations: 10 double-page sumizuri illustrations on ff. 7b-8a, 16b-17a, 27b-28a, 37b-38a, 47b-48a, 56b-57a, 66b-67a, 75b-76a, 81b-82a and 88b-89a. Seals of ownership: Octagonal British Museum stamp, MVSEVM BRITANNICVM, on ff. 1b and 109a. Manuscript notes: Notes in Kaempfer's hand in a few places, including romanisation and translation of title slip.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Yoshida Mitsuyoshi 吉田光由, 1598-1672. (Attribution in KS. Author not named in book.). Imprint: [Kyōto] , Yasuda Jūbē, Jōkyō 1, 1684. Kanki on fol. 109a reads: 貞享元甲子極月吉日 / 安田十兵衛開板. Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, in a box. ff. 1-89, 100-109 (despite gap in numbering, no folios appear to be missing). 131 x 94 mm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 116 x 85 mm. Single-line borders. Fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed dakuten and a few furigana. 11 lines to page, c. 20 characters to line. Original black covers, with original printed title slip. Gedai: Shinpan (tsunogaki) nendaiki / Jōkyō (tsunogaki) ōdaiki 新板 (角書) 年代記 / 貞享 (角書) 王代記. Title from naidai on fol. 1a. Hashiragaki: [no title] , folio no. only. Edition: First published in Keian 2 (1649), followed by later editions in Enpō 3 (1675), Tenna 4 (=Jōkyō 1, 1684) and Jōkyō 2 (1685). Contents: A brief chronological account of the reigns of the first 113 emperors of Japan, beginning with Jinmu Tennō in the mythical period.
