Rebound in western style half-leather binding. Edition: An early issue of the first edition. Preceded by many editions in China (Song, Yuan and Ming periods) and by a Japanese Gozan-ban edition of uncertain date, probably Nanbokuchō period. This edition, published in Keichō 9 (1604), was closely modelled on a Yuan edition dated (1366). This is attested by the original Yuan kanki reprinted on fol. 12 of the shinan 指南 in maki 1, which reads: 至正丙午良月南山書院新栞. The final folio contains a kango in gyōsho script, concluding with the 2 lines quoted under Imprint above. Full text of the rest of this kango reads: Contents: An early Chinese dictionary, based on the Shuowen 説文 and arranged under 542 radicals. Enlarged by Sun Qiang 孫強 in the Tang period and revised by Chen Pengnian in the Song.
