Description: 1 vol. bound in brown tooled leather, western style. pp. [1] (title page), [1, blank] , [2] (Approbatio + Facultas), [12] (calendar), 414 (main text), [4] (index). 23.4 x 16.2 cm. Movable type. Printing frame 19.2-19.4 x 12.2 cm. Single-line borders, with an additional rule below the running title. Text in Latin with a small admixture of passages in romanised Japanese. Printed in black and red, using both roman and italic type, on a printing press imported from Europe by the Jesuits. Varying no. of lines to page, depending on size of type. Musical (staff) notation on pages between 239 and 300. Printed on ganpi paper in a western tooled leather binding, old but not contemporary with printing. Spine title taken from title page. Edition: The only edition published by the Jesuit mission press in Japan. This is also the only book among kirishitan publications to be printed in red and black. Contents: A ritual in Latin adapted to the needs of the Church in Japan according to the Roman rite, edited by Bishop Luis de Cerqueira. It includes liturgical texts commonly needed by missionaries in Japan, particularly prayers and ceremonies for the administration of the sacraments. This copy lacks the 33-page appendix in romanised Japanese, referred to in the text, which is to be found in one of the copies in the Beitang Library 北堂文庫, Beijing.
