      1 volume Condition: Good, apart from minor worm damage, chiefly in margins. Impression: Atozuri, from heavily worn blocks. Printed on thin paper. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript notes: Brief 41 / 2-line note on orthography is written on mikaeshi of satsu 1.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Satomura Jōha 里村紹巴, 1527-1602. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [c. Kan'ei period, 1624-44] . Batsu dated Keichō 2 (1597) on page following fol. 48 of maki 4 does not refer to the date of publication but of completion of the work. This batsu ends: 慶長二年三月上旬 / 法眼 / 紹巴. Description: 4 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 1) ff. 1 (preface), 2-63; (2) ff. 47; (3) ff. 57; (4) ff. 48, [1] . 13.3 x 19.7 cm. (oblong format). Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 12 x 19 cm. (average). No borders. No vertical rules, even at hanshin. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text (gyōsho script), with few printed furigana. 10-11 lines to page, 10-12 characters to line. Original grey-green front covers of satsu 1 and 2, without title slips. Manuscript gedai (early Edo period) : 匠材集 天 (地). Title from naidai at head of text in each maki. Hashiragaki: Shōzai 匠材 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: An undated blockprint, probably published in Kan'ei period (1624-44). Dated editions printed from blocks were published in Kan'ei 3 (1626), Kan'ei 15 (1638) and Keian 4 (1651). All editions, movable type and blockprints, contain the batsu signed by Jōha 紹巴 and dated Keichō 2 (1597), noted above. Contents: A dictionary of words and short poetic phrases for use in composing renga poetry, arranged in iroha order.
