      1 volume Condition: Good, but with some unrepaired worm damage. Cropped at upper edge. Impression: Atozuri, from worn blocks. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript notes: A one-page abbreviated list of contents has been inserted at head of maki 上, in an early Edo hand.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Tanpō 丹峰, Buddhist monk (dates and biography unknown). Imprint: Kyōto, Tsurugaya Kyubē, Keian 1, 1648. Kanki on fol. 35b of maki 下 reads: 慶安元年五月吉日 / 京寺町蛸藥師前敦賀屋久兵衛開板. Description: 3 kan, formerly in 3 satsu, bound in 1 vol. (western style). (上) ff. [1] , 42; (中) ff. 43; (下) ff. 35. Fol. 11 of maki 上 has been wrongly bound in before fol. 1 of that maki. 25.8 x 19 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 22 x 17.5 cm. No borders. No vertical rules. Kanbun text with printed kunten in katakana and some kaeriten. 7 lines to page, 12-15 characters to line. Soiled off-white front cover only, renewed c. late Edo period, within a modern western style half-leather binding. Handwritten gedai on title slip of same period: 新撰類聚往來上中下. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: Ruijū jō 類聚上 (chū 中, ge 下) + folio no. Edition: The only recorded Edo period edition. Compiler's name, in the form 丹峰和尚撰焉, precedes kanki on fol. 35b of maki 下. Contents: A guide to letter writing, with selected words and phrases recommended for use, compiled late-15th to early 16th century.
