Variant title: Shittan jiki shō 悉曇字記鈔 [悉曇字記抄]. Variant title: Shittan jiki kikigaki 悉曇字記聞書. Author/compiler: Attributed to Shonpan 信範, Shingon monk, fl. c. 1286, but authorship is not stated in book. Imprint: [Kyōto] , Asaka Kohē, Meireki 2, 1656. Kango on fol. 37b of maki 8 ends as follows: 明暦二丙申仲秋日 播州八正寺深覚房挍合之 ／ 角倉通二條上指物町 ／ 安積小兵衛開板. Description: 8 kan, formerly in 8 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (1) ff. 27; (2) ff. 37; (3) ff. 44; (4) ff. 35; (5) ff. 32; (6) ff. 23; (7) ff. 33; (8) ff. 37. 26.2 x 17.3 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 20.5 x 15.6 cm. (average). Single-line borders, with fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten, interspersed with siddham characters, 9 lines to page, 17 characters to line. Mid-blue front cover, possibly original, of first satsu, with printed title slip (lower part missing) bearing gedai: 悉曇明了房記. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Shittan Myōryōki 悉曇明了記 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only recorded edition under this title. Contents: A commentary on Shittan jiki 悉曇字記 (Ch. Xitan ziji) concerning the use of siddham script and phonology. (Note that this commentary in 8 kan is a different work from no. 181.) Text edited, according to kango, by the monk Jinkakubō 深覺房.
