      1 volume Condition: Fair to good. Corners soiled and stained. Many folios repaired by urauchi patching. Ff. 43-52 bound in wrong order (see above). Impression: Atozuri, from moderately worn blocks. Illustrations: Double-page frontispiece on ff. 1b-2a. Sumizuri portraits of the 100 poets occupy the lower two-thirds of each page, accompanying each poem. Smaller woodcuts in upper third of each page, illustrating a scene from the poem. Artist's name not given. Seals of ownership: Octagonal British Museum stamp, MVSEVM BRITANNICVM, on fol. 1b and on kanki. Manuscript notes: Brief notes in Kaempfer's hand on ff. 5b and 51a. Scope and Content

Variant title: Kashiragaki eshō hyakunin isshu 頭書繪抄百人一首 [頭書絵抄百人一首]. Author/compiler: Compilation attributed to Fujiwara no Sadaie (Teika) 藤原定家, 1162-1241. Imprint: [Ōsaka] , Yamamoto Rihē, Enpō 1, 1673. Kanki on unnumbered folio following fol. 52 reads: 右頭書繪抄百人一首之板行者 / 延寶元癸丑歳陽月吉祥日 / 山本理兵衛開板. Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, in a slip-case. ff. [1] (tobira printed in pale green on mikaeshi), 1-2 (preface), 52 (last 10 folios bound in incorrect order, viz. 51, 50, 49, 46, 47, 48, 45, 44, 43, 52), [1] (kanki). 254 x 180 mm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 224 x 165 mm. (average). Double-line borders. Hanshin blocked in black ink, without fishtail design. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed furigana and dakuten. Variable no. of lines to page and characters to line. Original dark blue covers rebacked by urauchi, using paper of western manufacture. Original printed title slip in centre, with gedai: Kashiragaki eshō (tsunogaki in a roundel) hyakunin isshu zen. 頭書繪抄 (角書) 百人一首 全. Naidai at head of preface: 百人一首繪抄序. Hashiragaki: Hyakunin isshu 百人一首 + folio no. Folios are numbered at inner (binding) edge. Edition: One of very many 17th century editions, dated and undated.
