Jisanka chū 自讃歌註

Variant title: Waka chūsenshō 和歌註撰抄. Variant title: E-iri jisanka chū 繪入自讃歌註 [絵入自讃歌註]. Author/compiler: Sōgi 宗祇 (Iio Sōgi 飯尾宗祇), renga poet, 1421-1502. Illustrator: Hishikawa Moronobu 菱川師宣,1618-94. Imprint: [Edo] , Suharaya Mohē, n.d. [Enpō-Genroku period, c. 1680-90] . Kanki on fol. 43b reads: 繪師菱河師宣筆 ／ 江府 書林･･･ 須原屋茂兵衛梓. Description: 3 kan, formerly in 3 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上) ff. 1-18; (中) ff. 19-28; (下) ff. 29-43. (Many folios in maki 上 and 中 have been transposed in binding and are in the wrong order.) 26.8 x 18 cm. Fukurotoji. Original dark blue front cover of maki 上 only, with hand-painted designs of flowers and grasses in silver. Original title slip with printed gedai: 自讃歌註絵入. Title from gedai. No naidai. Edition: The first edition to contain illustrations. Preceded by a movable type edition in Kan'ei 10 (1633) and three blockprinted editions dated Kan'ei 13 (1636), Keian 1 (1648) and Kanbun 8 (1668). Copy in Ryerson Library is dated Enpō 8 (1680) and published by Shōkai 松會. Contents: Commentary by the poet Sōgi, written in Bunmei 16 文明十六年 (1484), on the poetical anthology Jisanka 自讃歌 which was composed of waka poems from various classical anthologies of the past.
