      5 volumes Condition: Fair. No worm damage, but most folios are soiled. Impression: Atozuri from worn blocks. Illustrations: A total of 10 double-page and 8 single-page sumizuri illustrations: 2 double and 2 single in maki 1-4, 2 double and 1 single in maki 4-5. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal of Okada Tadashi, reading Okada Tadashi no zōsho 岡田眞之藏書, on first page of each maki. Three other red seals (unidentified) on first page of various maki, as well as numerous black kashihon'ya stamps.

Scope and Content

Variant title: Shin hyaku monogatari 新百物語. Author/compiler: Mitatsu, 未達, haikai poet, novelist and publisher, also known as Shōshōshi 嘯松子. Full name: Nishimura Ichirōemon 西村市郎右衞門. Imprint: [Kyōto] , Nishimura Ichirōemon, Genroku 5, 1692. Kanki on fol. 15b of maki 5 reads: 元禄第五暦 / 申正月吉祥日 / 西村市郎右衛門 / 新版. Description: 5 kan, 5 satsu, in a chitsu case. (Maki 1) ff. [1] , 15; (2) ff. 15; (3) ff. 16; (4) ff. 14; (5) ff. 15. 21.9 x 15.2 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 19.1 x 14 cm. Single-line borders. Fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text with printed furigana. 11 lines to page, 22-26 characters to line. Original dark blue covers, now badly creased and rubbed, with original printed title slips. Gedai (on satsu 1, 3 and 4) : 諸國 (角書) 新百物かたり; (on satsu 2 and 5) 諸國 (角書) 新百もの語. Title from naidai at head of preface. Naidai at head of text in each maki: Shin hyaku monogatari 新百ものかたり. Hashiragaki: [no title] , maki no. + folio no. Edition: The only edition recorded under this title. Re-titled edition of the work originally published under title Otogi bikuni 御伽比丘尼, also by Nishimura Ichirōemon, in Jōkyō 4 貞享四年 (1687). That edition contained an additional preface signed by the author, Nishimura Shōshōshi 嘯松子, as well as the preface common to both editions, signed Hairinshi 俳林子. Copy of the present edition held by Tenri includes a second publisher, Nishimura Hanbē of Edo, in its kanki. Contents: A collection of ukiyo-zōshi stories, many of them dealing with the supernatural.
