Scope and Content

Variant title: Kan muryōjukyō 觀無量壽經 [観無量寿経]. Translator: Traditionally attributed to Kālayaśas, also known as Jiangliangyeshe (劉宋) 畺良耶舎, Central Asian Buddhist. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [mid- to late-Kamakura period, c. 1260-1300, but a somewhat later impression] . Spurious kanki on folio of thicker paper following last printed page reads: 正平七年二月十五日 / 大法師善真刻之. The date, Shōhei 7 (1352), is later than the probable date of printing of this copy. Description: 1 kan, formerly in 1 jō 帖 bound in detchō style, now rebound in western style. ff. [39] . (Numbering of alternate leaves hidden by present binding.) 25.9 x 16.7 cm. Folios printed on both sides. Blockprint. Printing frame 21.5-22 x 12.5 cm. No borders. Kanbun text, with manuscript kunten and kaeriten added in Muromachi period. 6 lines to page, 17 characters to line. Dark blue front cover (Muromachi period ?) with gold-painted title slip on left. Handwritten gedai: Kan muryōjukyō 觀无量壽經. Title from naidai. In a half-leather western style binding. Text paper: thick, smooth ganpi (or a mixture of ganpi and kōzo). Edition: Jōdokyō-ban. Clearly of the same edition and same impression as ORB.30/156. Contents: Text of the Amitāyur-dhyāna-sūtra, setting forth sixteen types of meditation to be practised as a means of attaining rebirth in the Pure Land.
