      1 volume Condition: Very good. Minimal worm damage (repaired) in upper margins. Impression: Generally sharp and clear. Blocks show only moderate signs of wear. Illustrations: Two continuous sumizuri picture maps of regions adjacent to the Kamo River, one headed 賀茂川以西圖 and the other 賀茂川以東圖, are printed on 6 unnumbered folios preceding main text of maki 1. Both are hand-coloured. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal (undeciphered) on first page of each maki.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Kurokawa Dōyū 黒川道祐, physician and Confucian scholar, also known as Gen'itsu 玄逸 and Bairin 梅林, d. 1691. Imprint: [Kyōto] , Mohē, Kahē, Jōkyō 3, 1686. Kanki on fol. 58b of maki 10, preceding hoi 補遺, reads: 貞享三丙寅年九月吉日 / 二条通小川西入町 / 書林 / 茂兵衛 / 加兵衛 / 仝板. Description: 10 kan, formerly in 10 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 1) ff. 1-8 (3 prefaces 序, the third being by the author + 凡例 + 目録), [6] (maps of areas west and east of Kamogawa 賀茂川), 9-30; (maki 2) ff. 27; (3) ff. 29; (4) ff. 47; (5) ff. 56; (6) ff. 38; (7) ff. 39; (8) ff. 47; (9) ff. 31; (10) ff. 64. 26.8 x 19.1 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 22.3 x 15.8 cm. (average). Single-line borders, with fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten. 14 lines to page, 22 characters to line. Pale fawn front cover of maki 1 only, with printed title slip on left. Gedai: 雍州府志. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: same as naidai and gedai + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: Possibly the earliest pre-modern edition. Contents: Local history and topography of the former province of Yamashiro 山城, now a part of Kyōto prefecture (京都府). In structure, the work is patterned on the Chinese Ming gazetteer 大明一統志 The title too is a deliberate imitation from the Chinese Yongzhou 雍州 (here equivalent to Yamashiro), an old province in northwest China; and the work is in kanbun throughout.
