Kanki on fol. 75b of maki 下 reads: 應安庚戌佛生日天龍東堂比丘妙葩命工雕之. Description: 2 kan, 2 satsu, (上) ff. [1] , 74; (下) ff. 75. 23.4 x 15 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame variable between 18 and 18.6 x 12-12.2 cm. Single-line borders; in a few sections double-line at inner edge of leaf. Vertical rules between lines of text. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text, without printed kunten but with some shubiki and other hiten 批点 in red ink. 11 lines to page, 20 characters to line. Vermilion covers (old but not original), renewed since this copy passed into the hands of Obama Toshie. (N.b. Kawase's description of the same copy in Ishii Sekisuiken bunko zenpon shomoku 石井積翠軒文庫善本書目, p. 81, indicates that before 1942 the book was bound in dark blue covers.) In a modern chitsu case. Title slips of recent date with handwritten gedai: Ōan Ke oshō goroku 應庵華和尚語錄. Title from naidai. Hanshin printed with abbreviated names of various monasteries in China (e.g. 妙嚴, 明果, etc.) at which the author had resided, followed by folio no. Edition: Gozan-ban, printed at the Tenryūji 天龍寺. Second known edition of this work, the first (also a Gozan-ban) having been printed at the Tōfukuji 東福寺 with a kanki dated Shōō 1 正応元年, 1288. This edition was printed from re-cut blocks closely modelled on the 1288 edition, itself a faithful reproduction of the original Song edition. The publisher, Myōha 妙葩, was responsible for reprinting, among many other works, all the Gozan editions issued at the Tōfukuji during the Shōō period, 1288-93. Attached successively to the Nanzenji, Shōkokuji, Tenryūji and Rinsenji, he was one of the most active monk-publishers in the Nanbokuchō period. Contents: Collected teachings and sayings of the Chan monk Ying'an, edited by Shouquan 守詮 and others of the Song period. Begins with a 1-folio preface by 端禮 and ends with a 2-folio batsu by the Chan monk Songyuan 松源.

- Physical Description2 volumes Condition: Good. Some water-staining in upper margin of maki 1, but no worm damage. Upper margins have been slightly cropped. Impression: Not shozuri, but a clear and fairly early impression. Seals of ownership: Red oblong seals of Ishii Sekisuiken Bunko 積翠軒文庫 (library of Ishii Mitsuo 石井光雄=Sekisuiken) and of Obama Bunko 小汀氏蔵書 (library of Obama Toshie 小汀利得) on first page of maki 上 and 下. Manuscript notes: As well as reading marks in red noted above, a few commentary notes in upper margins and the signature of an early former owner, Anchin 安枕, on first and last pages of maki 上 and on first page of maki 下.
