      1 volume Condition: Good. Minor worm damage, chiefly confined to margins. Impression: Shozuri or near. Seals of ownership: Large circular red seal, 瑞譽大僧正御牌所書籍外出不詳, on first page.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Ryōjō 良定, Jōdo monk and founder of the Hōrinji 法輪寺 monastery, also known as Taichū 袋中, 1552-1639. Imprint: N.p., Sugita Kanbēnojō, Shōhō 2, 1645. Mokki in a decorative frame on fol. 48b of maki 下 reads: 正保乙酉孟夏仲旬 / 杉田勘兵衛尉開板. Description: 2 kan, 1 satsu. (Maki 上) ff. 72 (folios 2 and 3 are followed by 2 further folios numbered 又二 and 又三, making a total of 74 folios in all); (maki 下) ff. 48. 28.2 x 19.1 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 20.6 x 15.9 cm. (average). Double-line borders, with 'flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten, interspersed with some siddham characters and longer passages in siddham script. 8 lines to page, 17 characters to line. Original chestnut-brown covers, with original printed title slip on left. Gedai: 梵漢對映集本末合本 全. Title from naidai at head of maki 上. Hashiragaki: Taieishū jō (ge) 對映集上 (下) + folio no. Edition: The only pre-modern edition recorded. Contents: A comparative study of Sanskrit and Chinese, languages and scripts, as vehicles for Buddhist scriptural texts. Unsigned preface is dated Genna 9 元和九年 (1623) on fol. mata 又 3.
