      1 volume Condition: Good. No worm damage, but most folios water-stained in maki 上 and beginning of maki 中. Impression: Sharp and clear, shozuri or near. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript notes: Manuscript titles, 増補倭玉篇巻上 and 増補倭玉 on original mikaeshi of maki 上 and on back endpaper of maki 下. Signature in black ink (mid-Edo period), Konan Yoshida-shi 湖南吉田氏, on verso of back endpaper.

Scope and Content

Variant title: Zōho wagyokuhen 増補和玉篇. Variant title: Shinkan wagokuhen 新刊倭玉篇. Author/compiler: Unknown. Imprint: [Kyōto] , Chōjiya Chōbē, Kanbun 2, 1662. Kanki on fol. 31b of maki 下 reads: 寛文二年壬寅中春吉日 丁字屋長兵衛板行之. Description: 3 kan, formerly in 3 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上) ff. 30; (maki 中) ff. 34; (maki 下) ff. 31. 26.7 x 19.4 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 23.4-24.1 x 17.7 cm. Double-line borders all round. Vertical and horizontal rules, dividing each page into 100 rectangles of equal size. Fishtail design on hanshin. Text in kanji with printed on and kun readings in katakana. Each maki is headed by a 1-or 2-olio list of contents (目録). Each of the 542 section headings (''radicals'') throughout the text is printed inkoku. 10 lines to page, 10 characters to line (7 in 目録). Original covers missing. Title from naidai of maki 上. Title at head of maki 中 and 下: Shinkan wagokuhen 新刊倭玉篇, with Zōho 増補 as tsunogaki in maki 下. Hashiragaki: Wagoku maki jō 和玉巻上 (chū 中, ge 下) + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: This edition of 1662 is the only one recorded under this title in Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録. Contents: A Spanish adaptation of the Japanese-Portuguese dictionary published by the Jesuit Mission at Nagasaki in 1603-04 with the title VOCABVLARIO / DA LINGOA DE IAPAM ... (Nippo jisho 日葡辞書 or Nippo jiten 日葡事典).
