Scope and Content

These papers comprise two memoranda which give an insight in the discussions of the negotiation of lands by England and France in May 1755, presented by the French Ambassador, the Duc de Mirepoix and the Secrety of State for the Southern Department, Thomas Robinson, Lord Grantham. These discussions were part of the factor that led to the Seven Years' War that began in 1756. They were possibly sent to Lord Hartington, as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to keep him informed of political affairs.

The memoranda lay out the four points of discussion between the courts of France and England concerning the colonies of America, Canada and the Carribean Islands of St Vincent, St Lucia, Dominica and Tabago.

There is also a note to the Duke of Devonshire from the duc de Mirepoix apologising for his absence.
