Scope and Content

In these letters, the author writes to his distant relatives, the 3rd Duke and Lord Hartington concerning Irish politics. He writes concerning agreeing to stand in the vacant place of Mat Deane in Cork, should Deane die from his illness, a matter which has made the 3rd Duke as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland very angry. He mentions Mr Bristow and Mr Frankland.

He also writes to Lord Hartington, when he is the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland about going to Cork harbour to search for the barrels of beef and detaining them and awaiting Lord Hartington's command. He writes too of scouting the fort and customs house at Kinsale for French strangers and his proposal to Mr Clements and acceptance of the post of Teller of the Exchequer.
