Scope and Content

In these letters Sir Abdy writes concerning legal matters relating to the Burlington estates, as adviser to Lord and Lady Burlington on such matters.

He mentions: the Dowager Countess Burlington's estate [Lord Hartington's grandmother]; the death of his father; papers from Dean Gervais [or Gervase]; Mr Spencer's purchase relating to the late Lord Montford; renewal of leases requested by Mr Conner; appointing someone in Ireland to look over all the leases there; Lady Burlington's gout; visiting Chiswick; Mr Coventry; Mr Colebrooke and the mortgage on Mr Barker's estates and Lord Stafford's purchase money; bill to be filed in Lord Cavendish's name [future 5th Duke] relating to making an attested copy of Lord Burlington's will evidence in all courts; all papers and leases at Lismore brought from there to the evidence room at Burlington House so Mr Ferret can have immediate access when necessary; Dean Gervais's account of the tenants on Burlington estates in Ireland; Dean Gervais's request for his annuity to be paid; a matter concerning enclosing woodland at Ballyrafter and Mr Croty consenting but the undertenant objecting to it without an allowance; a recommendation for Dean Gervais; ill with gout; a bill to Messrs Nesbitt for £1000 via Mr Conner; the fishery at Lismore and its tenant Mr Christopher Musgrave and the fishery at Dungarvan tenanted by Thomas Flynn relating to the possible navigation of the Black Water; Mr Ellis' opinion the fishery at Lismore is worth £100 a year.
