These letters written by William Russell, 5th Earl of Bedford and later 1st Duke of Bedford are predominently letters to his relatives and show his very affectionate and close relationship with these women, namely his daughter-in-law Rachel, Lady Russell (formerly Vaughan) and his grandaughter Rachel (daughter to Lady Russell). The letters include mention of the sickness of Wriothesley Russell (CS1/27/3) and his assistant chosen to accompany him abroad (CS1/27/5). There is also a copy letter concerning political matters in Bedford to Lord Bolingbroke and a copy of the patent granting the dukedom of Bedford to Lord Russell.
