These letters to Lord Hartington from his former tutor concern: pebbles he is sending Lord Hartington from Whitchurch; his opinion on political affairs; a smallpox outbreak; Mrs Newcome's ill-health; "our Hampshire friends"; his travel plans for London; furnishing of his house at Windsor by Mrs Thornhill; hearing news of Lord Hartington when in town but not once in the country; a visit from the Bishop of Kildare; taking the waters for his health; a visit from his brother and nephews; the Windsor election; Mr Egerton; declining the bishopric owing to the added expense he cannot afford; his condolences [on the death of Lady Hartington].
