Scope and Content

The author writes to "my dear child" with thanks for the moor game and the pretty letter. She adds that she is 84 now and still happy to socialise and spending the rest of the autumn at Tunbridge Wells and hopes to see the recipient of her letter on her return. Written from Tunbridge Wells. Signed "F Clermont". [Written in Lady Spencer's hand].

Administrative / Biographical History

Frances Cairnes Murray (1732-1820), a daughter and co-heiress of Colonel John Murray, MP for County Monaghan married William Henry Fortescue, 1st Earl of Clermont KP (5 August 1722 – 30 September 1806) and had one daughter Louisa Fortescue.
