Scope and Content

The author writes that: she has sent the receipt as requested; Virgil and Jewel [dogs?] behaved in the coach except for frightening Mr Roberts; Lord Barg is at Wickham-brooke; she hopes the reader has seen Madamoiselle St Andre's blushes; she has sent two French novels recommended by Colonel Russell; she wishes to be at Woburn.

There is a note with the letter that read "His Grace the Duke of Devonshire [probably 6th Duke (1790-1858)] wishes to know who Jane Allington might be" and an explanatory note giving details of Jane Alington's link to the Devonshires.
