The author writes concerning the sessions for Middlesex that had begun on his return from the north. He writes a description of the justices of the country meeting at Hicks Hall, to decide who they should choose to serve in Parliament for the county. He explains that Charles Gerrard and Mr Hawtry are standing and that Sir John Worstnam would stand if Lord Tavistock would stand with him. He goes on to explain that Mr Payton also intends to stand and produced a letter from the Duke of Bedford (Lord Tavistock's grandfather) showing his interest in Mr Payton, prompting the justices to ask the author what he thought of the matter. He then asks Lady Russell what he should say to them and offers up his own views on why he believes Lord Tavistock to be a suitable candidate despite his age and his studies. Written from Gray's Inn, London. Signed 'Tho. Owen'. Addressed to the Lady Rachel Russell at the Duke of Bedford's at Woburn in Bedfordshire.
